Direct cremation: $795 – $4,160
The widest price spread in the market, for the most standardized service that exists.

Metro averages land between $1,663 and $1,841 depending on the dataset. The cremation itself is materially identical across tiers — a licensed crematory, a required container, and transport. What varies is overhead and branding.
Cremation with a service: $2,495 – $9,950
Add a chapel memorial or a viewing before cremation:
- Budget path: F.L. Sims (East Point) $2,495; Flanigan chapel-service package around $1,000 on top of cremation
- Mid-market: Wages & Sons $3,915 (with private family viewing), Carmichael $4,195, Levett $4,795, Davis-Struempf $4,525
- Premium: Tim Stewart $6,070, Eternal Hills $7,845, Mayes Ward-Dobbins $9,950
Funeralocity's Atlanta average for cremation with viewing and service: $4,925.
Traditional funeral with burial: $3,140 – $13,425 (before the cemetery)
Funeral-home charges only — service, embalming, viewing, hearse — excluding casket in many quotes:
- Value tier: Forest Lawn $3,140, Carl M. Williams $3,395, F.L. Sims $3,895, Mowell $4,250
- Mid tier: Bill Head $5,845, Levett $6,560, Darby $6,520, Davis-Struempf $7,465, Wages & Sons $7,240
- Premium: Willie A. Watkins $8,695, Cannon Cleveland $8,545, Roswell Funeral Home / H.M. Patterson Canton Hill $10,325, Mayes Ward-Dobbins $12,470, H.M. Patterson Spring Hill $13,425
Metro average: $7,400 – $8,600. NFDA national median: $8,300 (with viewing, no vault).
The cemetery is a second bill
Burial adds a parallel set of costs no funeral home controls:
| Item | Atlanta range |
|---|---|
| Plot (private cemetery) | $800 – $3,995 |
| Opening & closing | $500 – $2,295 |
| Vault or liner | $700 – $2,500 |
| Perpetual care | $100 – $500 |
All-in traditional burial in Atlanta routinely totals $10,000 – $16,000.
Three things Georgia law says that funeral homes won't volunteer
- No embalming requirement. Georgia does not require embalming for burial or cremation.
- No vault requirement by law. Vaults are cemetery policy, not state law.
- You can supply your own casket or urn — from any retailer — and the funeral home cannot charge a handling fee for it. That's federal law under the FTC Funeral Rule.
