Methodology & Editorial Policy

Every price on Fairwell traces to a document or a named source. Here is exactly how the data is collected, labeled, and corrected.

Where our prices come from

  1. Provider General Price Lists (GPLs). The itemized price document every US funeral home must provide under the FTC Funeral Rule (16 CFR Part 453). We use GPLs published on provider websites and GPLs filed with the Funeral Consumers Alliance of Georgia (FCAGA) archive.
  2. Provider pricing pages. Live package pricing published directly by providers.
  3. GPL-based comparison platforms. Funeralocity, Parting.com, and US Funerals Online, which mirror or collect GPL filings.

How prices are labeled

LabelMeaning
Published GPLTaken directly from the provider’s own GPL document or pricing page.
ReportedSourced from a GPL-based aggregator; pending direct confirmation with the provider.
Call for pricingNo public price list exists. The FTC Funeral Rule still requires the provider to quote prices by phone.

Verification and freshness

The current dataset was compiled in July 2026 from documents whose effective dates range from 2015 to 2026 — which is why every figure should be treated as a floor, not a quote. Each provider page carries a “prices last verified” date. Phone re-verification of every listed provider is in progress; verified entries will be marked accordingly.
