Methodology & Editorial Policy
Every price on Fairwell traces to a document or a named source. Here is exactly how the data is collected, labeled, and corrected.
Where our prices come from
- Provider General Price Lists (GPLs). The itemized price document every US funeral home must provide under the FTC Funeral Rule (16 CFR Part 453). We use GPLs published on provider websites and GPLs filed with the Funeral Consumers Alliance of Georgia (FCAGA) archive.
- Provider pricing pages. Live package pricing published directly by providers.
- GPL-based comparison platforms. Funeralocity, Parting.com, and US Funerals Online, which mirror or collect GPL filings.
How prices are labeled
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Published GPL | Taken directly from the provider’s own GPL document or pricing page. |
| Reported | Sourced from a GPL-based aggregator; pending direct confirmation with the provider. |
| Call for pricing | No public price list exists. The FTC Funeral Rule still requires the provider to quote prices by phone. |
Verification and freshness
The current dataset was compiled in July 2026 from documents whose effective dates range from 2015 to 2026 — which is why every figure should be treated as a floor, not a quote. Each provider page carries a “prices last verified” date. Phone re-verification of every listed provider is in progress; verified entries will be marked accordingly.
Editorial policy
- No pay-to-rank. Directory ordering and price tables are determined by data, never by payment. Partner status never changes a listed price.
- No fabricated numbers. Where no published figure exists, we show “call for pricing” — we never estimate silently.
- Named authorship. Guides and blog posts are written and edited by a named author (about us), with primary-source citations (FTC, Georgia regulators, NFDA, provider GPLs).
- Corrections. If you represent a listed funeral home and a figure is outdated, contact us via the request form with your current GPL — corrections ship within 48 hours, with the updated verification date shown.
- Imagery. Provider photos come from official provider websites and are credited; where none is available, clearly labeled illustrative imagery is used.
